Rules & Safety
  • Participants must wear a cycle helmet certified to a standard approved by the Land Transport Safety Authority
  • All road rules are to be obeyed at all times as all roads are open to traffic
  • We recommend that you have your bicycle checked by a professional bike shop before commencing training for this ride, and again before the event.
  • We want you, the cyclists to enjoy yourselves. To increase your enjoyment and safety as a condition of entry we require that support vehicles do not follow, or mingle with, the event. We reserve the right to remove any rider or team from the event who has a support person breach this requirement.

Two person teams.

In the interests of rider and other road user safety we request that team members are driven to the Kaponga transition on Eltham Road via Stratford and Eltham (SH3), not on the Surf Highway (SH45).

All other teams.

In the interests of rider and other road user safety your second leg rider must be driven to Okato prior to the event’s start. Please arrange for your third leg rider to be taken to Opunake prior to the ride reaching Okato. We request that team members are driven to the Kaponga and Norfolk transitions via SH3, not on the Surf Highway (SH45).
